Parkland Pathway Policies & Procedures

Following are the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign policies and procedures as they relate to our Parkland Pathway program.

Billing

Tuition charges from each institution, Parkland College and the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), will have different payment dates and processes.

Parkland College

The Registration Guide has information on registration, tuition due dates, and payment plan information.

Parkland Student Account Summary: Self-Service shows real time account transactions and your account balance. To view the Student Account Summary and pay your bill:

  • Log in to Self-Service
  • Choose "Student Finance"
  • UIUC

UIUC will send email reminders to students and Authorized Payers regarding recent activity in their student account and about amounts owed and their due dates. The student account, available online at UI-Pay, allows students and Authorized Payers to view and print all student account transactions, which include payments received as well as charges and credits for tuition, fees, and housing.

All questions about UIUC billing can be directed to the University Bursar, either by phone at 217-333-2180 or by email at bursarhelp@uillinois.edu. Detailed information can be found at UI-Pay. The student account displays the official university bill; students will not receive a UIUC bill in the mail.

UIUC Student Account Summary: Enrolled students may access and print their student account history and billing information online through Student Self-Service:

    • Log in to Student Self-Service
    • Select the "Account Billing Information" tab
    • Read the announcements, then select the "I acknowledge I have read above" icon
    • Select "Student Account," then "View & Pay Accounts"
    • Select the "Make Payment" icon

    Payment Plan

UIUC provides an alternative option to the regular university payment policy called the Payment Plan, which allows students/authorized payers to spread payment of anticipated tuition, mandatory fees, and room and board expenses (if applicable) over 6 installments for the Fall and Spring semesters. Enrollment is not automatic for current participants. A student must be re-enrolled on a semester basis and have a minimum balance of $500.00 in their Payment Plan to be eligible.

    Authorized Payers

Students may authorize a parent, guardian, spouse, sponsor or other individual to view their student account, make online payments, and receive FERPA-protected student billing account information. These individuals are called Authorized Payers. Students can set up an Authorized Payer using the following instructions:

    • Log in to your student account through the Access page
    • Select "Authorize Payers"
    • Select "Add New"

Once the individual has been added as an Authorized Payer, an e-mail will automatically be sent to the email address used during the sign up process that provides their login name and a link to set up a password. Authorized Payers receive e-mail notifications reminding them to view their student's account for recent activity and to pay any amount due by the due date.

If you have a Payment Plan established and would like the Authorized Payer to be able to view it and/or receive email notifications related to it, the account owner must do so within the "Manage Authorized Payer Access" link located on the Payment Plan Details page of their plan.

Tuition

While enrolled in the Parkland Pathway to Illinois program, tuition is assessed in accordance with the appropriate rate as determined by Parkland College. In consultation with both UIUC and Parkland advisors, you may choose to register for up to five hours of coursework each fall and spring semester. If you choose to enroll in summer courses at UIUC, you'll be charged at the applicable UIUC rate.

Fees

In addition to tuition, campus fees pay for campus infrastructure, resources, and services. All UIUC students, including those participating in the Parkland Pathway program as non-degree students, are automatically assessed our Health Insurance Fee. All other fees can be paid on an opt-in basis, depending on whether you'd like to take advantage of the corresponding rights and services.

Optional fees include the Service Fee, Transportation Fee, and Student-Initiated Fees, and can be paid for through the Registrar's website. Questions can be directed to BursarCashiersUIUC@uillinois.edu or to 217-333-4870. Students may also opt in to the Health Service Fee, but these services must be paid for at the McKinley Health Center Business Office.

All dollar figures below are per-semester rates in effect for the Fall 2023 and Spring 2024 semesters. Rates and other information are subject to change. All students will be assessed fees at the range-based rates regardless of whether they are enrolled in on-campus or online classes and regardless of student location.

Health Insurance Fee (estimated): $818

This covers the cost of premiums to the insurance carrier and the cost of administering the group sickness and accident plan. You'll automatically be assessed this fee. If you want to seek an exemption, follow our Student Insurance Office procedures.

Recommendation: Stay in unless you have better family coverage.

Service Fee: $337

Choosing to opt in to this fee will allow you to use the services it supports, including State Farm Center, Campus Recreation, Career Center, Illini Union, Illinois Leadership Center, and Student Services and Arcade Buildings.

Recommendation: Most students opt in. This fee covers many of the popular and useful services UIUC students enjoy.

Health Service Fee: $251

This fee distributes salaries, programming, general expenses, and utilities to the Counseling Center and McKinley Health Center. It allows you to use supported services and covers prescriptions, flu packs, and a wide variety of helpful mental and physical health services.

If you live in University Housing or Private Certified Housing and are registered for a UIUC course each semester, you will be automatically assessed the fee.

Recommendation: Opt in (required if you'll live on campus).

Transportation Fee: $68

This fee supports a campus and community transportation plan for students, maintains the SafeRides program, and enhances late-night transportation. The Transportation Fee is necessary to help cover our contract with Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit for this year and future years. Without this fee, students would lose access to the city bus system in future years.

Recommendation: Opt in to use the Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District bus system with your i-card.

Student-Initiated Fees (combined): $73

As a Pathway student, you won't be assessed the following fees:

  • Krannert: Supports programming at the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts.
  • Sustainable Campus Environment: Helps establish a sustainable campus environment by financing initiatives such as green buildings, engagement of the university community, recycling, energy efficiency, and environmentally responsible purchasing.
  • Students for Equal Access to Learning: Supplements existing financial aid for students with financial need.
  • Legacy of Service and Learning Scholarship: Funds a new and permanent source of need- and merit-based scholarships that include a community service component.
  • Student Organization Resource: Supports the Student Legal Service, Off-Campus Community Living, and registered student organizations. You can be in an RSO if you haven't paid this fee, but if your organization receives fee money (e.g., if fee funds are secured to help pay for a trip the group arranges), you won't be able to receive the benefit of the award. You also can't use Student Legal or Tenant Union services if you haven't opted in to this fee.
  • Cultural Programming: Supports cultural programming within 6 areas: African-American; Asian-American; Latina/o; LGBT, Native American; and women's programming.
  • Study Abroad and Travel Scholarship: Provides scholarships to undergraduate students for study abroad.

Recommendation: Opt in, especially if you'll live on campus. Among other things, assistance with landlords and legal representation will be available to you under certain circumstances.

Disability-Related Resources & Accommodations

Parkland College

Accessibility Services at Parkland College works in partnership with the college community to facilitate equal access for students with disabilities to the educational programs, services, and activities of Parkland College in accordance with federal law. Official documentation of disabilities must be submitted to Accessibility Services to qualify for accommodations.

UIUC Resources

Disability Resources and Educational Services (DRES) is the campus office responsible for ensuring that qualified individuals with disabilities are afforded an equal opportunity to participate in and benefit from the curricular, co-curricular, and vocational opportunities available at UIUC. DRES, which is available to all university students, is a unit of the College of Applied Health Studies.

Campus Identity

IDs

Idenitfication cards are provided for all students at both Parkland and UIUC, including Parkland Pathway participants.

  • Parkland: Parkland ID cards are issued free of charge to all students through the Office of Student Life and are valid as long as you're enrolled at Parkland. To obtain a Parkland ID, you must show a photo ID (i.e., state ID, passport, or driver's license) and proof of enrollment in classes. A charge applies for replacement ID cards.
  • UIUC: To get your Illinois ID card (i-card), present a government-issued picture ID (e.g., a driver's license or passport) at the ID Center, which is located at the Illini Union Bookstore. In order to receive all benefits of the i-card, including bus transportation, you must be currently registered for a UIUC course (access will vary based on registration each semester).

Personal Information

Make sure you keep your personal information (including your address and phone number) updated through both the Parkland and UIUC systems.

  • Parkland: Access the Parkland system. Self-Service is a gateway to your student grades, financial aid, and many other vital resources in addition to your personal information. Click on "User Options" on the left to view your User Profile and check to make sure all the information is up to date. If information needs updated, email registration@parkland.edu from your Parkland student email.
  • UIUC: Access the Illinois system. Select the "University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign" link. Note that you must claim your NetID and set your NetID password before you are able to access your UIUC records; you can do this through your myIllini Admitted Student Checklist. In addition to accessing and updating your personal information, you will be able to access billing information, academic records, and, after you transfer as a degree-seeking student to UIUC, financial aid.

Computing

  • Parkland: Parkland has open computer labs, which can be found in the Learning Commons.
  • UIUC: You will frequently use your Illinois NetID to access resources on campus. To claim and set your NetID and NetID password, you need your University Identification Number (UIN) located on the back of your Notice of Admission letter. General-use computer labs provide reliable computer and printing access to students, faculty, and staff. You can read more about services provided by Technology Services on their website.

Email

Your Parkland and UIUC email accounts will be a way that professors and other institutional officials will communicate with you, and they'll expect you to be checking both of your accounts. This will be vital to your success in the program.

  • Parkland: You will use your student email account to keep in contact with your instructors and advisors, to receive information from Admissions and Financial Aid, and to receive important campus-wide announcements. Log in with your ParklandOne username and password.
  • UIUC: All undergraduate students receive an Exchange (Outlook Online) email inbox. Use the Microsoft Outlook app to connect email to a mobile device. Exchange is a service used for email, calendaring, and contact and task management at UIUC and is vital for receiving emails and information from the university. Technology Services supports student computing at Illinois, including email help. If you need assistance, their help desk is available via email at consult@illinois.edu or by phone at 217-244-7000.

Parking & Transportation

Public Transportation

Using public transportation is your best option. Your i-card functions as an MTD bus pass. You can learn the basics of riding MTD buses on their website. You might also consider using any number of their third-party apps, such as mtd.org, Token Transit, or Transit for CUMTD. Visit the MTD website or call 217-384-8188 for more information.

Parkland Parking

At Parkland, parking is free, and no ID sticker is needed. View available Parkland parking lots.

UIUC Parking

You can purchase a permit to park in the shuttle lot (E-14, located at Kirby and First). MTD buses run between campus and this lot. You can also purchase a permit to park long-term in one of our overnight lots, including E-14 (Kirby and First), F-23 (Florida and Lincoln), B-4 (University and Goodwin), and B-22 (University and Goodwin). Visit the Parking website for more information regarding parking lots and permits.

Numerous lots and streets have metered spaces available. It may be tricky finding an open space during school/work hours. Whenever you park at a meter, check to see what enforcement hours are and if there are limits (e.g., two-hour max). Some meters are university-operated, and others are city meters. All meters can be paid through the MobileMeter app. View our campus parking map for more information.
