Malaysia – Application Help

The following information is designed to assist myIllini applicants in filling out the application, and Common App applicants in filling out the Self-Reported Academic Record (SRAR) after submitting the Common App.

Education Section Help

  1. If your school follows the Malaysian national curriculum, do not report academic results from internal assessments. Enter your school and select "Yes" under the Education System question to indicate you are in an exam-based educational system.
  2. Malaysian applicants must complete additional study following the SPM exam in order to be eligible for first-year admission. This may be completed in a high school recognized by the Malaysian government, a STPM program or in an American Degree Transfer Program; however, students who spend two years in an ADTP should apply as transfer students. List all institutions attended in the Education section of the application.

Courses Section Help

  1. If your school follows the Malaysian national curriculum, do not report academic results from internal assessments.
  2. In the Courses sections, select "I did not attend this school during grades 9-11/grade 12 or have only international exam results during this period." You will report your exams in the Other Academic Information section.
  3. If you have done additional study beyond SPM in a high school or IB program report your term grades under the institution attended. For students who will be attending one year of an American Degree Transfer Program you should report your first year of classes as year 12. Students doing STPM or an A-Level program will report their exams when they report their SPM results.
  4. Report your SPM exam results in the Other Academic Information section titled "International External Exam Results." Select Malaysia SPM and fill in the correct information.
  5. If you will be completing STPM and haven’t completed it yet, enter the subjects you plan on sitting for. Include all subjects that will appear on your final exam results when they are released. If you do not have your exam results yet, select "Results Not Received Yet." If you have received your results, report them.
