Hello Future Illini,
The University of Illinois boasts the largest Greek system in the country. With almost 25% of the undergraduate population involved, fraternities and sororities are very popular on campus. I came to Illinois knowing about thirty students from home and wanted to meet more. I decided to try sorority recruitment.
Women may participate in formal sorority recruitment during two weekends at the beginning of each fall semester. Those two weekends are very busy, but I definitely found a sorority that I could call home. Fraternities have a much less structured recruitment process during both semesters. In my past three years as an active member of my chapter, I have made many close friends, had great opportunities to build my leadership skills, and have become a part of a close-knit community.
Members of fraternities and sororities on this campus are very friendly and provide instant support systems for new students. If you want to get involved in an organization that will offer you leadership opportunities, academic support, and a great social life, I suggest considering joining the Greek system. I have had an excellent experience in the Illinois Greek system and could not imagine my college years without it.
