Private Certified Housing

Private Certified Housing (PCH) is the right choice for many students who come to Illinois. Within a given year, over 20% of the entering freshman class chooses to live in one of 16 PCH facilities.

Because students contract with each facility directly, students have the advantage of knowing where they are living immediately. This guarantee is especially helpful for transfer, out-of-state, and international students. In addition, many PCH units are open during fall, winter and spring breaks during the academic year.

Each of the facilities offer meal plans and several give students the opportunity to prepare their own food. Most facilities are located on or near campus and offer:

  • Furnished double rooms
  • Semi-private bathrooms
  • Air-conditioning
  • Computer connections

On-site visits are the best way to explore the variety of amenities offered by each facility.

Each PCH facility has a staff of Resident Assistants who are trained to be a resource to all residents in the case of an emergency or merely as a veteran on campus. Social and educational activities through student government and building programs are also offered at PCH facilities. Such programming includes, but is not limited to:

  • Movies
  • Dances
  • Wellness programs
  • Workshops on study skills and testing

Scholarship is valued and housing areas are reserved for studying, especially during exam periods. Some halls award scholarships to residents for academic achievement. As a result, residents of all facilities have strong GPAs.

PCH facilities are a part of the University’s housing program. They abide by all certified housing standards and comply with municipal building code, life safety code, health code, and University code. The facilities offer an array of comfortable living accommodations in a wide range of prices and sizes.

General information about each facility can be obtained by requesting information online via the PCH Web site or visiting each of the individual property sites found in facilities. Many of the halls listed have online applications or contracts to expedite your housing choice.
